Hosting Issues

We are aware of some issues with both mirror.astlinux.org and files.astlinux.org. mirror.astlinux.org has been restored on a temporary host. files.astlinux.org remains unreachable. It will likely be this way until May 16th. This will affect new developers who have not downloaded sha1sum files for the downloads. We appreciate your patience during this issue.

AstLinux 0.7.1 release

The AstLinux Development Team is happy to announce the release of AstLinux 0.7.1. This release includes several bug fixes but one MAJOR change which will require one extra step after performing an upgrade from AstLinux 0.7.0. The sound files have been removed from the default image. This provides several benefits. First, the download image has been reduced (~25% smaller) to approximately 30MB. Secondly, users can choose to install more than just the core sounds (or even non-english sounds). Please read the changelog file which is found with the download files for a full list of changes.

AstLinux 0.7.0 release

The long awaited first official release from the 0.7 branch of AstLinux is now available for download. Select the 0.7.0 version under "Get AstLinux" on this page for the download link. Existing 0.6.x users can upgrade, but should read these instructions before doing so.

The AstLinux Team would like to thank everyone involved in the release process. There have been many significant changes that could not have happened without feedback from users.

New Documentation Site

A new documentation site was launched. The site uses Dokuwiki which is an easy to use wiki. Documentation should be more complete, but we still need assistance from users to continually update and proof the existing content at doc.astlinux.org.

Asterisk 1.6 added

The ability to build versions of Asterisk 1.6 into trunk was added. Support is very preliminary, but appears to work without major issues. AstLinux will continue to produce images with the 1.4.x series until the next long-term stable release is available. We may produce images with both Asterisk 1.6.x and 1.4.x, but would consider the 1.6 versions to be beta.

DAHDI Support Added

Support for DAHDI has been added to trunk and the 0.7 branch. DAHDI is a replacement for Zaptel which Digium renamed as mentioned here.

FreeSWITCH added

Support for FreeSWITCH has been added to the AstLinux development environment. At the moment we have compiled an ISO image of AstLinux-FreeSWITCH (better name coming soon) for testing purposes. It should run on generic i586 hardware (including VMWare, VirtualBox, etc).

Details of the image:

  • FreeSWITCH takes the place of Asterisk. Everything else remains the same.
